Superintendent's Welcome! From Mr. Charles Aubry Welcome to the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Unit
5 School System – “The Home of the Falcons!”
Since the District’s inception on July 1, 1993, GCMS has prided itself on
being progressive in the areas of academics and extracurricular activities. Please refer to the following chart from the
Illinois Interactive Report Card (IIRC):
There are a number of impressive factors
contributing to our students’ academic performance.
It certainly starts with having involved parents who value education and
a supportive community. Our
district has been blessed with parents who hold high expectations for their
children, and a community that holds these same high expectations for its school
system. Another factor is our dedicated staff
members. The GCMS teachers and
administrators are constantly reviewing and adjusting our curriculum to ensure
that the subject matter being taught is appropriate and current for the
preparation of our students’ future.
Our support staff, within their classifications, keeps the building and
grounds clean, prepare healthy meals, instruct our students in the classroom,
assist in organizing our schools, complete required reports, and help us
maintain a strong and healthy learning environment for our students.
Obviously, the most important factor is the
GCMS students. The majority of our
students come prepared to learn on a daily basis.
Our students have demonstrated a strong work ethic, are focused on their
responsibilities, and are respectful of others.
Current research indicates there is a strong relationship between school
academics and student involvement in school activities.
Over 80% of our high school students have participated in an activity
during the fall of 2009. I am proud to serve as the superintendent of this great school district! As I mentioned previously, the GCMS District is fortunate to have excellent students, caring parents, dedicated staff members, and supportive communities. GCMS will continue to work diligently to ensure this academic excellence into the future. As a parent, you can help by continually being an active participant in your child’s education. I encourage you to contact your child’s teachers early in the school year. Academic success is significantly enhanced when a positive relationship exists between parents, teachers, and other school personnel. If you have questions or comments please
