The GCMS School District is an ECE-12 district located in Gibson City, Illinois.  The district is located in East Central Illinois, 124 miles south of Chicago, 35 miles east of Bloomington, and 30 miles northwest of Champaign-Urbana.  The district encompasses four smaller communities – Melvin, Sibley, Elliot, and Foosland, as well as the larger community of Gibson City.

 

Each of the communities offers housing.  Gibson City has two new subdivisions that are filling up quickly with homes.

Buildings

“Early Childhood Education (Ages 3-5)”  and the “Preschool for all (Ages 3-5)” programs are housed at the First Christian Church in Gibson City.  Contact information is the same as listed for the GCMS Elementary School.

The GCMS Unit 5 District’s Vision Statement and the School’s Mission Statements are stated below:

 

 

a)                  District Vision Statement

 

The vision of the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley School District is to create a community of life-long learners by providing an atmosphere of enthusiasm, excellence, and respect.

 

b)                  Elementary Mission Statement

 

The mission of the GCMS Elementary School, in cooperation with parents and community, is to develop empowered, life-long learners who have high academic and interpersonal skills that are necessary for future success.

 

c)                  Middle School Mission Statement

 

The mission of the GCMS Middle School is to create an environment of mutual respect and responsibility where individuals are inspired to reach their fullest potential.

 

d)                 High School Mission Statement

 

The mission of Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School is to commit all available resources to the enhancement of educational opportunities in order to maximize student potential for life-long learning in a positive environment
